The most well-known Buddhist teachers on the planet all have something in common they are excellent communicators. This is not by accident, as the Buddha taught what are called the four elements of right speech over 2,600 years ago.
In this one-of-a-kind book, certified meditation and mindfulness instructor Cynthia Kane has taken the four elements of right speech and developed them into a modern practice based on mindful listening, mindful speech, and mindful silence.
Beginning with an illuminating self-test to assess your current communication style, this book will take you through the author's own five-step practice, which is designed to help you
- Listen to yourself (your internal and external words)
- Listen to others
- Speak consciously, concisely, and clearly
- Regard silence as a part of speech
- Meditate to enhance your communication skills
If you have ever felt misheard, have trouble stating how you feel, or long to have more meaningful and genuine conversations, this book can help. The simple steps outlined in this book will have a huge effect on how you communicate with others and yourself.
Communication is essential to being human, and when you become better at it, your personal truth becomes clearer, your relationships improve, and the result is that you experience more peace and harmony in your life.

I loved this book--read it in a day--and it now sits at the top of my self-help mountain of books. Most how to books are read, tried for a couple of days, and discarded...happens to me anyway. Not so with this little beauty. Anyone out there love the tiny writing book Strunk and White's book Elements of Style? This book is just like that.. short, simple, and accessible. As Kane shares her stories and journey towards competently communicating, you feel like, "Hey, if she do it..so can I..very encouraging. Plus, each chapter each contains simple changes ( Improv Technique)..which is a 2 word technique that's easy to do and implement in every day communication. This book is a winner and a keeper...I bought them and gave them to my teenagers and friends...MY TEENAGERS liked it!! Enough said.Product details

How to Communicate Like a Buddhist (Audible Audio Edition) Cynthia Kane Michelle Murillo Hierophant Corp Books Reviews
Excellent book. I would have liked to see some more REAL examples on several pages where the communication was challenging and what would you say? There were none. Many good points though throughout the book.
It makes you slow down and be in the present moment when communicating. You’ll enjoy how it makes you conscious of your words. And how to view sarcasm and wrong speech, it isn’t kind!
Nice read. I've used some of the concepts and recommendations in the book to be a better communicator. Listening and asking the right questions are outlined in the book. Using her techniques as described will help one improve their skills in verbal communication.
This book is packed full of useful information on how to be a better communicator. Each time I pick it up I learn something new. It is not a book I will read once and put on the self. I keep it nearby for easy reference. I think of it as my "Communication Bible." Cynthia Kane's writing skills are superb and make this book a joy to read and understand.
As a Buddhist, I am constantly seeking growth and the betterment of self to help others. This is a wonderful tool to harness your own honesty and practice it with others through awareness and thoughtful communication pointers and anecdotes.
This book is specifically helpful if you have the habit of saying things that you late regret. I am a college instructor for public speaking/interpersonal communication (I also dabble in eastern thought/ principles) and the author's techniques are instinctive and very easy to follow. It helps lessen putting your foot in your mouth or coming across as passive-aggressive. Although I read most of my books via my tablet, I bought the paperback version because it easier to highlight and come back to it again and again. I recommend the paperback for these reasons.
This book has put so many aspects of my life in perspective for me at the exact right time. I've just returned to the U.S. after 10 years abroad and have begun teaching at the elementary level. It's an intense experience and this book has helped me immensely. The way the author simplifies the concepts of this awesome book demonstrates an admirable model of communication in itself. It has helped me both personally and professionally. It's helped me listen to others and most importantly to myself. It's helped me gain an understanding of what's inside, outside, and the interplay between the two. Thank you for a very comprehensible and valuable read. If the world is to be saved, it's books like this that are going to make it happen. I highly recommend "How to Communicate Like a Buddhist" to anyone looking to become a better communicator and ultimately a better person. Thank you, Cynthia Kane!
